چکیده
The groundwater quality of Koch Bihar District (West Bengal, India) has been assessed to determine the suitability for drinking. Eight parameters have taken into account calculating water index (WQI): pH, total hardness (TH), magnesium (Mg), calcium (Ca), carbonate (CO32-) and bicarbonate (HCO3-), chloride (Cl), iron (Fe) sulfate (SO42-). Secondary data on were collected from Central Ground Water Commission (2018), samples various locations analyzed accordingly. physico-chemical evaluated following standards BIS WHO guidelines. calculated WQI ranges 23.62 95.12. In terms drinking purposes, Tufanganj-1 Bihar-1 seem be worst blocks. (Mg) concentration exceeds acceptable limit 30 mg/l in Mathabhanga I, II, Dinhata Sitai Block II its permissible (100mg/ l). Iron value 0.5 II. Total Hardness (TH) (200 mg/l) Mekhliganj, Mathabhanga-I, Bihar-I, Bihar-II, Tufanganj Sitai. However, no sample crosses maximum carbonate, chloride, sulfate. It is suggested that drawn such sources disinfected adequately before being used or other domestic purposes.
